Sydney Reed, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Grief Educator providing individual, couples, and family therapy exclusively online to clients throughout Texas. As a co-founder of Two Sparrows Therapy & Counseling, a therapy practice based in Abilene, Texas, Sydney specializes in grief and loss, life transitions, relationship concerns, and supporting military service members and their families.
If you are experiencing grief, navigating a significant loss, or trying to adjust to a major change in your life, Sydney provides a supportive and collaborative online therapy space where you can slow down, understand what you are experiencing, and find meaningful ways to move forward.
Sydney is passionate about supporting individuals, couples, and families as they navigate grief and loss. Through her own experiences with different forms of grief, she has developed a personal understanding of how complicated and varied the grieving process can be.
Grief does not always look the way people expect it to. It can involve sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, numbness, relief, loneliness, or a combination of emotions that can change from one day to the next. Grief can also affect relationships, identity, daily routines, and a person's sense of the future.
Sydney believes that people experiencing grief often need more than reassurance that they will eventually “move on.” They may need a space where their experience can be understood, their emotions can be validated, and they can learn more about grief and how it affects them.
When Sydney and Angela Martin, LMFT, opened Two Sparrows Therapy & Counseling in 2022, Sydney recognized a need for accessible counseling in Abilene and the surrounding community. That experience became an important part of her work as a therapist and Certified Grief Educator.
Sydney's goal is not to tell clients how they should grieve. Instead, she helps clients understand their own grief, make space for difficult emotions, navigate changes that accompany loss, and discover ways to carry their loss while continuing to live a meaningful life.

Grief counseling is not limited to the death of a loved one. People can experience grief whenever something meaningful changes, ends, or becomes uncertain.
Sydney works with clients experiencing:
Ambiguous loss can be especially difficult because there may not be a clear ending or resolution. You may be grieving someone or something that is still present in your life while simultaneously experiencing a profound sense of absence or change.
Sydney helps clients explore these complicated forms of grief without requiring their experience to fit a particular definition or timeline.
As a military spouse herself, Sydney is passionate about working with military service members and their families.
Military life can bring unique challenges, including frequent moves, deployments, separations, reintegration, changing roles, and transitions that affect individuals, couples, and families.
Sydney provides a supportive and collaborative space for military-connected clients to process these experiences, navigate change, and identify the strengths and resources they already have.
Military life can also involve many forms of loss. Moving away from a familiar community, leaving friends and family behind, changes in roles or identity, and repeated transitions can all involve grief—even when there has not been a death.
Sydney's personal experience as a military spouse gives her familiarity with many of these transitions while allowing her to approach each client's experience as unique.
You do not have to arrive at your first session knowing exactly what you need or having everything figured out.
Early sessions may focus on understanding what brought you to therapy, learning about your experiences and current circumstances, and identifying what you hope will be different. Sydney works collaboratively with clients to develop goals and determine what approaches best fit their individual needs.
For clients experiencing grief, therapy may include:
For couples and families, therapy may also focus on communication, relationship patterns, navigating grief together, and understanding why different people may experience the same loss in very different ways.
Sydney believes therapy should be a collaborative process rather than something that is simply done to you.
Her approach is client-centered, strengths-based, and focused on creating a therapeutic relationship where clients feel heard, respected, safe, and understood.
Sydney incorporates:
Sydney recognizes that every client brings their own history, relationships, values, and experiences into therapy. Treatment is therefore individualized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Sydney provides therapy for individuals, couples, and families.
Individual therapy can provide space to process grief, loss, difficult emotions, life changes, and relationship concerns while developing greater understanding and coping skills.
Couples therapy can help partners navigate communication difficulties, relationship changes, grief, and other challenges that affect their connection.
Family therapy can help family members understand one another's experiences, communicate more effectively, and navigate significant changes or losses together.
Because grief and major life transitions often affect more than one person, Sydney considers the relationships surrounding each client as an important part of the therapeutic process.
Sydney provides therapy exclusively through secure online sessions to clients throughout Texas. Online therapy offers individuals, couples, and families the opportunity to meet with a therapist from the privacy and comfort of their own space, without needing to travel to an office.
Two Sparrows Therapy & Counseling is based in Abilene, Texas, where Sydney began her work as a therapist and where the practice was founded.
